Treatment of haemorrhoids in women

Haemorrhoids are a disease caused by systemic weakening of the vein walls. Vascular nodes localized in the rectum increase in diameter, become less durable and lose some of their functions. Due to blood stagnation, there is a risk of thrombosis and rupture of the haemorrhoid. According to statistics, women are up to three times more likely to suffer from haemorrhoids. We will tell you how to recognize the disease in them and what methods should be used to treat it.

How does haemorrhoids manifest in women

Symptoms of haemorrhoids become clear and vivid only in advanced forms of the disease. At the initial stage you may feel:

  • itching in the rectum during and after bowel movements;
  • feeling of incomplete emptying;
  • moderate pain in the rectum when straining:
  • swelling of the perianal folds.

As haemorrhoids progress, women experience anal bleeding of varying severity – from traces of blood on toilet paper to the discharge of clearly visualized clots in the stool. Starting from stages 2-3, patients are concerned about the prolapse of haemorrhoids after emptying. At stage 2, they independently return to the intestinal ampulla, and at stage 3, they have to be reset by hand.

Already from the third stage, haemorrhoids in women are considered a life-threatening disease. It is accompanied by a high risk of breakthrough bleeding, constant pain, and a general deterioration in quality of life.

Why haemorrhoids occur – risk groups in women

The main cause of haemorrhoids in women in most cases is a specific hormonal background. Estrogens and progesterone relax the walls of blood vessels, promote their expansion, and the accumulation of fluid in the tissues, which causes swelling and stagnation. Estrogens also increase the likelihood of thrombosis, which indirectly affects the condition of the pelvic veins. It is because of this hormone that women suffer from haemorrhoids more often than men.

Anomalous expansion of veins can also be caused by:

  • post-birth (hormones + need to push);
  • overweight;
  • bad habits – smoking and alcoholism;
  • chronic stool disorders (constipation and diarrhea equally);
  • chronic stress;
  • increased physical activity;
  • sedentary lifestyle.

Specific intimate preferences (rough anal sex), lack of vitamins and fiber in food, and age-related changes can affect the condition of the rectal veins. Genetics plays a significant role in the risk of haemorrhoids – if parents suffered from varicose veins and haemorrhoids, children are also at risk of encountering these diseases.

Is it possible to cure haemorrhoids at home without surgery

In the treatment of all stages of haemorrhoids, drugs of local and systemic action are used. The former help reduce discomfort, speed up the recovery of mucous membranes, reduce the size of haemorrhoids and eliminate the problems of blood stagnation and thrombosis.

What topical medications will help cope with the symptoms of haemorrhoids:

  • Detralex gel is a venotonic based on diosmin and flavonoids, strengthens veins, increases their tone;
  • ointment and suppositories “Proctoglivenol” – a drug with tribenoside and lidocaine, which strengthens the walls of veins, helps stop bleeding, and relieves pain;
  • Natalsid suppositories are an anti-inflammatory, venotonic and hemostatic agent based on alginates from algae.

Suppositories based on organic products – sea buckthorn and olive oils, propolis – bring relief.

It is important to understand that local remedies – suppositories, ointments, creams – only fight symptoms. They cannot restore vascular tone, return veins to normal anatomy and permanently get rid of haemorrhoids. We recommend using the listed drugs at the stage of preparation for radical therapy, or after the intervention.

Effective and quick treatment of haemorrhoids in women

The only way to get rid of haemorrhoids was and remains surgical intervention. Today, proctology has many minimally invasive methods for radical removal of haemorrhoids.

In our clinic we perform:

  1. HAL-RAR combines ligation of the feeding arterial branches with lifting of the prolapsed internal tissue if necessary. It is the arteries, not the veins, that are ligated. The method is applied in selected patients with internal haemorrhoids; the external component and the severity of prolapse can influence the choice. Duration, anesthesia, likelihood of recurrence, and alternatives are discussed separately. The fixed figure of 96% is not a guarantee of an individual result. More on the topic: the HAL-RAR method.
  2. Laser thrombectomy is a thermal effect on the cavity of the dilated vein, its soldering. The operation is performed without incisions and has an extremely low risk of wound infection. Hospitalization is not required after such an intervention. The method is used at stages 1-2 of haemorrhoids. Suitable for the treatment of external haemorrhoids.
  3. Longo’s operation is an intervention performed using a special device equipped with circular blades and a stapler. It allows you to remove part of the mucous and submucous membranes of the rectum in one step and sew the edges of the wound, pulling the prolapsed haemorrhoids upward. The method is indicated for prolapse of haemorrhoids at stages 3-4.
  4. Removal of haemorrhoids using the Milligan-Morgan method (haemorrhoidectomy) is a radical operation during which the doctor removes all haemorrhoids along with adjacent areas of the submucosal layer. The edges of the wounds are sutured with a surgical suture. The operation takes no more than half an hour, but requires observation in a hospital for 2-3 days after the procedure. The method allows you to eliminate external and internal haemorrhoids of 3-4 degrees.

Preparation and recovery depend on the chosen procedure, the extent of the intervention, and the overall condition. Some procedures allow a faster return to certain daily activities, but pain, complications, and recurrent symptoms are possible after any method. It is not possible to guarantee all patients five years without recurrence. Before treatment, expected timelines, care, and criteria for re-consultation are discussed.

Before and after surgery for haemorrhoid removal we use epidural anesthesia with a spinal block. Patients do not feel pain, but at the same time retain the ability to think clearly, and within 1-2 hours after the intervention they can return to work and household chores.

Remember that in the early stages, haemorrhoids are easier to treat and have fewer health consequences than advanced forms. Come, we will relieve you of a delicate problem without pain, quickly and effectively.
