Why are haemorrhoids dangerous in men? Diagnostics, treatment, specialist recommendations

Haemorrhoids in men occurs in different age groups. This proctological disease is manifested by painful sensations in the anus and the formation of haemorrhoids (due to enlargement of the venous vessels of the rectum and anus).

Types of haemorrhoids in men

Unfortunately, haemorrhoids are more often diagnosed in advanced stages, since many are embarrassed to consult a doctor with such a delicate problem. Taking a local anti-inflammatory medication or painkillers temporarily relieves the pain, but the disease continues to progress. That is why it is important to contact an experienced proctologist of our Center for timely diagnosis and prescribing the correct treatment plan.

Internal haemorrhoids

The pathology is invisible during a routine examination; its diagnosis requires rectoscopy or anoscopy. In this case, the nodes may fall out during bowel movements or with strong muscle tension, and bleeding appears. There are 4 stages of flow:

  • Stage I – nodes form inside the rectum.
  • Stage II – the nodes protrude during defecation and then move back.
  • Stage III – haemorrhoids fall out under any strain, but are retained inside the rectum during moments of rest.
  • IV stage – prolapsed nodes cannot be reset on their own.

Manifestations of an acute form with pronounced symptoms are typical: bleeding, itching, burning, severe pain.

External haemorrhoids

Characterized by the presence of haemorrhoids covered with skin on the outside. When defecating, painful sensations are observed, blood stagnates in the nodes, which can lead to the appearance of blood clots. Depending on the amount of blood, the size of such formations is from 3 mm or more. External haemorrhoids in men occurs in three stages:

  • Stage I – there are no signs of inflammation, there are small nodes.
  • Stage II – pronounced hyperemia, local inflammation often appears.
  • III stage – inflammation spreads to the entire anorectal area, purple haemorrhoids are visible to the naked eye. Painful sensations when putting pressure on the node, moving, or sitting.

The modern “Haemorrhoids Treatment Center” has effective methods for treating this disease at all stages. It is important to consult a proctologist in a timely manner to prevent complications (painful ruptures of the anus, compression or thrombosis of nodes, infections, necrosis).

The combined form has characteristic features of two types of disease, which requires an individual approach to treatment.

Signs of haemorrhoids in men

The manifestation of haemorrhoid symptoms in men depends on the stage of the disease:

  • The first stage is characterized by slight bleeding during bowel movements, and shooting pain may occur. In its external form, a small painful node appears.
  • The symptoms appear more clearly in the second stage – the venous nodes fall out when visiting the toilet or going to the gym. stress, bleeding can occur even in the resting stage, itching, peeling, and burning occur around the anus.
  • At the third stage, the nodes are enlarged and do not retract back (they have to be reset by yourself or by a doctor. Bleeding is constant, complications arise in the form of cracks, wounds, incontinence.
  • In the fourth stage, haemorrhoids cannot be reduced, the quality of life is significantly reduced, the patient constantly experiences itching and pain around the anus. At any time, a blood clot can break off and block a vessel in the pelvic area.

The Haemorrhoid Treatment Center will select conservative treatment or surgical intervention (in advanced cases).

Causes of haemorrhoids in men

There are many causes of haemorrhoids in men:

  • Sedentary work, where most of the time is spent in a sitting position (vehicle drivers, office workers).
  • Bad habits (alcohol abuse, smoking).
  • Improper nutrition (the diet contains a lot of fatty and smoked foods).
  • Hereditary factors.
  • Chronic stress.
  • Obesity.
  • Systematic lifting of weights.

These causes of haemorrhoids in men lead to weakening of the rectal muscles and disruption of blood flow in the vessels. The veins in the rectal area cannot cope with the load, which leads to their overflow with blood and deformation – nodes (haemorrhoidal lumps) appear.
Consequences of haemorrhoids in men

In addition to discomfort and pain, haemorrhoids without treatment can lead to serious consequences:

  • Anemia due to bleeding. The higher the stage of the disease, the higher the blood loss.
  • Anal fissures are dangerous because pathogenic bacteria enter them, causing inflammation.
  • Thrombosis of haemorrhoidal veins manifests itself in later stages. The pain becomes constant, tissue death is possible.
  • Oncological diseases and rectal polyps. The disease provokes the development of atypical cells and neoplasms.
  • Paraproctitis – the appearance of abscesses, fistulas. This will require surgery.

The speed of the disease and the occurrence of complications depends on age, gender and other factors.

Treatment

At the initial stage, treatment of haemorrhoids in men at home will help to significantly alleviate the condition:

1. Herbal decoctions will help strengthen the walls of blood vessels and improve overall tone. Effectively use infusions of kidney herb, yarrow, nettle, raspberry leaves, beet juice.

  • Local baths with medicinal plants have an anti-inflammatory effect. Cold baths reduce burning and itching, warm baths with chamomile, sage or St. John’s wort eliminate small cracks and have an antiseptic effect. It is important to note that baths are contraindicated in case of infectious complications or heavy bleeding!
  • Lotions with herbal decoctions of strawberry leaves, grated beets or rowan will speed up the healing of cracks.
  • Microclysters with diluted herbal decoctions (celandine, chamomile, sage) soothe and heal wounds. Such procedures cannot be performed in the acute phase of the disease with heavy bleeding!
  • Suppositories for haemorrhoids with honey, mumiyo or potatoes have disinfecting properties and stop bleeding.

All these measures serve only as auxiliary methods of treatment.

In the acute course of the disease or the chronic stage, only a proctologist will help!

Prevention of haemorrhoids in men

Prevention of male haemorrhoids is a set of measures aimed at preventing the disease. Healthy people who are at risk or have already been ill should follow simple rules:

  • Regular breaks every 3 hours are important, especially when working sedentarily. Exercising for 8-15 minutes significantly reduces the risk of haemorrhoids.
  • We often do not pay enough attention to our diet, but it is worth reviewing. It is better to consume food in small portions and exclude fatty and heavy foods (smoked meats, spicy foods, fast food).
  • It is worth replacing the seat of a car or office chair with a more rigid one. Or use a massage pad.
  • Visit a proctologist at least once a year, even if there are no signs of haemorrhoids.

Kegel exercises have proven themselves well and can be performed at a convenient time.

Invitation to a consultation (check the cost when making an appointment) at the clinic

If you have the first symptoms or want to get information about your health, the Haemorrhoid Treatment Center offers to sign up for a consultation (check the cost when making an appointment). The appointment is conducted by an experienced proctologist with many years of practice. He will conduct a full diagnosis and prescribe effective treatment:

  • Anoscopy is an examination of the intestines using an anoscope to identify pathologies, polyps or haemorrhoids.
  • Irrigoscopy is an x-ray method using contrast. Allows you to diagnose any pathological changes, anomalies and neoplasms.
  • Rectoscopy is an endoscopic examination of the sigmoid colon. This method allows you to diagnose haemorrhoids in the early stages, colitis, fissures or fistulas in the rectal area.

According to indications, the doctor prescribes a colonoscopy, laboratory or other tests. The possibility of sedation and analgesia is discussed separately; they have their own limitations and do not eliminate all risks. The results help clarify the cause of pain, blood or inflammation. Team experience and equipment are important to the quality of care, but do not guarantee health or the same outcome for all patients.

    Questions and answers

Experts say there is no direct connection between the initial stages of haemorrhoids and potency, since the unpleasant sensations are short-lived and the nodes are invisible. However, most patients face the following problems:

    • Mental discomfort. During sexual intercourse, a man worries about the prolapse of haemorrhoids or the opening of bleeding, which leads to loss of potency.
    • Painful sensations. During sexual intercourse, all the muscles in a man’s pelvis are involved, so pain often occurs when the haemorrhoids are compressed, which prevents you from concentrating on the pleasant sensation.
    • Prolonged ejaculation.

Haemorrhoids and prostate diseases can occur simultaneously, but this does not prove a direct causal relationship. Pain, anxiety and discomfort can temporarily interfere with your sex life. Erectile dysfunction, urinary dysfunction or other urological symptoms require separate evaluation and cannot be automatically attributed to haemorrhoids. The following accompanying conditions are considered according to their own diagnostic criteria:

    • Infection of the genitourinary system due to the spread of pathogens through the blood vessels from the gastrointestinal tract.
    • Inflammation of the prostate.
    • Varicocele – dilation of the veins of the scrotum – is a separate disease and is not the same as haemorrhoids. Testicular function, fertility and erection issues are assessed by a urologist. It cannot be said that haemorrhoids necessarily impair sperm motility or gradually lead to impotence. With such complaints, you need to establish the real reason.
    • In men, due to anatomical features, an oblique inguinal hernia often develops with haemorrhoids. The seminal canal is compressed, which leads to loss of erection.

To avoid unpleasant consequences, it is advisable to undergo examination by a proctologist at least once a year.
