To assess the patient’s condition, identify contraindications and possible complications, the following procedures are performed:
- Biochemical and general analysis of blood and urine. Check the level of sugar, proteins, leukocytes. Indicators are necessary to exclude diabetes and inflammation.
- Coagulogram. Detects blood clotting disorders.
- Electrocardiogram. Evaluates the state of the cardiovascular system.
- Fluorography. Checking for lung pathologies such as tuberculosis or tumors.
- Ultrasound of the abdominal cavity. It is necessary to identify concomitant diseases, namely intestinal ulcers, polyps or appendicitis.
- Tests for antibodies to HIV, hepatitis B, C, syphilis.
- Rectal palpation of the rectum. Diagnostic method for identifying pathological changes in the anal area.
- Anoscopy, colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy. Methods for examining the intestines using optical instruments. Allows you to obtain more accurate information about the condition of the mucous membranes than palpation.
- Allergy tests. They check the tolerance of drugs and anesthesia.
The list of examinations before surgery is determined by the surgeon and anesthesiologist, taking into account the intervention and concomitant diseases. Consultations with a gynecologist, urologist and other specialists are needed according to indications, and not necessarily for every patient. Anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents, including aspirin, cannot be discontinued on their own or considered absolutely contraindicated. The doctor who is managing the underlying disease, together with the operating team, assesses the risk of bleeding and thrombosis and specifies the dosage regimen in writing. This is especially important for stents, artificial valves and previous thrombosis.
IMPORTANT! All medications taken by the patient must be indicated in the medical history! Even minor medications from the client’s point of view can cause complications of haemorrhoidectomy!
